Welcome to Discovery Place

Discovery Place

We’re so glad you’re here!

At Discovery Place, our mission is to inspire curious thinkers to discover the wonders of science, technology and nature. We believe that the world of science is truly wonder-full, and we can’t wait to explore it with you.

For more than 70 years, our team has been dedicated to providing innovative and interactive science education to the community.

Through museum experiences, live shows, community outreach programs, summer camps, birthday parties, IMAX films, educator professional development, special event programs, hands-on labs, world-class exhibitions, guided travel programs and more, we hope that everyone will find their way to connect to and get excited about science.

There are four museums in our network, filled with experiences designed for ages 1 to 100:

  • Discovery Place Science: Located in the heart of uptown Charlotte, our interactive science and technology center features extraordinary exhibitions, hands-on labs, live science shows, an indoor rainforest, aquarium habitats, a giant screen IMAX Dome Theatre, a makerspace and more. With a full schedule of events, workshops and adults-only happenings, Discovery Place Science is appropriate for all ages and all stages. Check out hours and ticket information.
  • Discovery Place Nature: Nestled next to Freedom Park, Discovery Place Nature encourages visitors to discover the wonders of nature and develop an appreciation for the living and natural world. The indoor/outdoor experiences highlight interactions with native plants and animals and active play. Featuring a digital planetarium (included with admission) and monthly Creature Feature event days, guests are invited to connect with both the earth and the sky. While all nature lovers are welcome, the Museum is best suited for ages 0 -7. Check out hours and ticket information.
  • Discovery Place Kids: With locations in Huntersville and Rockingham, Discovery Place Kids museums are focused on young children (ages 0 – 7) and their caregivers. These community-based facilities provide rich play experiences that encourage children to ask questions, build skills, cultivate imaginations and set the stage for lifelong learning. A visit to Discovery Place Kids is filled with exhibitions, crafts, story times, puppet shows, dance parties and special event days – all designed to build foundational skills in literacy, science and math. Check out hours and ticket information for Huntersville or Rockingham.

We hope you will choose to visit one or all of our Museums. Then connect with us on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram or TripAdvisor and share your experience with us.
