Discovery Place Nature and Discovery Place Kids offer extended summer hours on Tuesday nights until 8:00 p.m.

Every summer, all Discovery Place museums extend operating hours from 4:00 to 5:00 p.m. to allow guests an extra hour of summer fun at the Museums. And now there’s even more!

In addition to the summer hours, beginning Tuesday, May 30, Discovery Place Nature, Discovery Place Kids-Huntersville and Discovery Place Kids-Rockingham will now stay open until 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday evenings (Discovery Place Science is not included.)

These extended hours hope to offer working families the opportunity to experience family fun together during the summer months.

Plus, all Museums will be open 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. on Monday, May 29 for Memorial Day for even more hands-on fun!

Opened Monday, May 29 from 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. for Memorial Day

Sunday: noon – 5:00 p.m.

While Discovery Place Science will not be offering late night hours, visitors can catch an IMAX film outside of the Museum's normal operating hours with the new monthly event, Night at the IMAX.

On Tuesday, June 6, guests can see the highest grossing giant screen documentary of all time return to the giant screen for one night only: EVEREST.

Filmed in 1996, EVEREST is the dramatic true story of a team of climbers who found hope, strength and triumph in the wake of tragedy. Their successful ascent of Mount Everest just days after fellow mountaineers and friends died there is a compelling story about the human spirit and a mountain they love, respect and sometimes fear.

Shown on the largest IMAX screen in the Carolinas, EVEREST takes audiences across creaking ice falls and gaping chasms, up dangerous, towering cliffs, through a harrowing rescue, and into the danger zone of oxygen-thin altitude. The 40-minute film also reveals how this tallest mountain was formed and continues to evolve, how high altitude challenges a climber's physical and mental capabilities, and how Sherpa culture permeates the Mount Everest experience.

Doors open at 6:30 p.m. Film starts at 7:00 p.m. Beer, wine and snacks will be available for purchase from Curio City Kitchen. Tickets for Night At the IMAX are $5 for Members of Discovery Place Science or $10 for non-Members. Tickets are available at science.discoveryplace.org or by calling 704.372.6261.
