Indoor festival will take over science museum with all-day celebration of invention, resourcefulness and local creativity on Saturday, October 8

CHARLOTTE – The second annual Charlotte Mini Maker Faire is returning to Discovery Place Science on Saturday, October 8, 2016 from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

While Maker Faires take place all over the world, the Charlotte Mini Maker faire is a local event tailored to inspiring and showcasing Charlotte’s creative community. This year’s event brings 73 exhibitors, vendors, workshop teachers, speakers and performers from across the region including:

• Drone racing with Charlotte FPV Racing League
• Upcycled fashion shows and design seminars with Art Institute of Charlotte
• Sport rockets with Rocketry of Central Carolina
• Bot Hockey and combat robotics demos with Carolina Combat Robots
• 3D printing, hackathons and much more!

Booths will be all throughout Levels 1 and 2 of the Museum, N Tryon St and Level 3 of the parking deck. Exhibitors located on Tryon St are free to the community, and all other areas require an admission ticket. The Mini Maker Faire will go on rain or shine. For inclement weather, outdoor vendors will be moved indoors, space permitting.

Nearly 30 hands-on workshops, performances and demonstrations will take throughout the day including the high-energy art and showmanship of Jared Emerson. Using paint and his bare hands, he’ll create a one-of-a-kind masterpiece that will leave you amazed! Jared’s custom painting will be auctioned and a portion of the proceeds will go directly to Discovery Place. Workshops are offered on a first come, first serve basis, with a limited capacity of 25-30 guests per event. A full schedule of workshops is available at cltmakerfaire.org.

All Charlotte Mini Maker Faire events, workshops and activities are included with Discovery Place Science admission: $17 for adults (ages 14-59), $13 for children (ages 2-13), $15 for Seniors (ages 60+) plus any applicable sales and use taxes. Admission is free for children younger than age 2 and Discovery Place Science Members. Tickets purchased online will receive $1 off admission. Online ticket sales end Friday at 11:59 p.m. Parking is not included with Museum admission. Tickets are now on sale at cltmakerfaire.org. Advance purchase is recommended.
