Discovery Place Kids-Huntersville partners with Publix to reveal new healthy market experience

HUNTERSVILLE – We’ve spilled the beans! Discovery Place Kids-Huntersville is turning six, and to celebrate we are opening a new Town Market experience on Saturday, October 22 at 9:00 a.m.

Guests will go bananas for this reimagined grocery exhibit, made possible by Publix Super Market Charities. A popular area of the I CAN Be Healthy exhibition, the newly renovated Town Market features healthy play food selections, updated check-out counters and all-new added experiences and programs that allow children and caregivers to know more about where food comes from and how it nourishes our bodies.

This souped-up experience allows little imaginations to not only shop at the Town Market but work there too! The expanded behind-the-scenes experience is now complete with a store manager’s desk and walk-in cooler. At the checkout counter, ring up fresh goods on state-of-the-art cash registers that feature digital touch screens for both the cashier and the customer.

Not ready to ring up your purchase? Embark on a virtual journey from farm to table with new time-lapse videos and interactive spin browsers. Then take a closer look at your food to see how seeds and produce look under a microscope.

Want to know what’s cooking in the Museum? The brand new demonstration counter is where Discovery Place Kids’ Creative Play Professionals will host daily programs about the importance of good nutrition and interactive presentations on how food transforms from a tiny seed into a healthy snack.

We aren’t just buttering you up -- all of these new experiences open on Saturday, October 22 at 9:00 a.m. Members of Discovery Place Kids-Huntersville will get to whet their appetites with an exclusive Members-only preview from 8:00 – 9:00 a.m. You’ll look as cool as a cucumber sipping on fresh refreshments provided by Publix. Members will also get to discover what fun we’ve cooked up during a culinary presentation in the new Town Market demonstration counter.
