Discovery Place Kids-Huntersville will Deliver BASF Kids’ Lab Curriculum to the Charlotte Community in Partnership with BASF

Discovery Place KIDS - Huntersville

Discovery Place Kids in Huntersville announced today that thanks to the generosity of BASF, the Museum will offer BASF Kids’ Lab curriculum one weekend per month through July 2022 and outreach programs at select area schools through June 2022.

BASF has been offering its Kids’ Lab chemistry program with Discovery Place since 2014. The current offering marks the first time the science lab will be available through Discovery Place Kids-Huntersville’s in-museum programming.

“BASF is committed to strengthening the pipeline for STEM careers through science education, especially starting at an early age,” said Denise Hartmann, BASF Senior Vice President – Dispersions & Resins Division, Americas. “We’re excited to continue our commitment to introduce kids in the Charlotte region to the world of chemistry. Through Kids’ Lab, young people can explore chemistry and how we use it every day through fun, hands-on learning. We hope that Kids’ Lab will lead to an appreciation for chemistry and the many possibilities in STEM-related careers.”

“We are grateful to have the support of an amazing community partner like BASF, who is dedicated to bringing quality STEM education to the diverse and growing Charlotte region,” said Tifferney White, Chief Learning Officer of Discovery Place. “Through their Kids’ Lab curriculum, we are able to offer additional hands-on science learning, outside of our regular exhibits and programming, to Museum visitors.”

Discovery Place Kids – Huntersville is open to the public from 10:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. and will offer Kids’ Lab on consecutive Saturdays and Sundays once per month from January – July. Visit our website for the Kids’ Lab programming schedule. Advance reservations are required to visit the Museum and can be made online at kids.discoveryplace.org.

The BASF Kids’ Lab program enhances science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) related education for students, creating fun with chemistry and encouraging kids to explore the connections between chemistry and the world around them. More than 250,000 students have participated in the award-winning BASF Kids’ Lab programs throughout the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
